Book of the Month Subscription: My Picks So Far
So I started receiving Book of the Month in August 2021, and I’ve really loved this subscription box. Here are the books I’ve ordered so far:
Books from the stack above:
The Keeper of Night by Kylie Lee Baker
The Inheritance of Orquidea Divina by Zoraida Cordova
The Water Dancer by Ta-Nehisi Coates
Peach Blossom Spring by Melissa Fu
The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab
The Firekeeper’s Daughter by Angeline Boulley
Crying in H Mart by Michelle
The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood
Fiona and Jane by Jean Chen Ho
A History of Wild Places by Shea Ernshaw
The Ex Hex by Erin Sterling
The honest truth?
I haven’t read most of these yet!! Getting a book a month in the mail plus having a very long TBR means I’ve ended up with several very pretty additions to my bookshelves, but ones I haven’t yet had time to crack open and read from cover to cover.
I might end up putting my BotM subscription on hold for a while so I can catch up, we’ll see. :)
Book of the Month differs from other subscription boxes in a few major ways:
You choose the book you receive each month (from a selection of 3-7 books)
You don’t get extras - it’s just a book and a bookmark, and that’s it. No bookish merch or anything is included in these boxes.
What really matters: They’re still a lot of fun to receive, even if you know what you’re getting! If you’re a bookish person like me, it might be a great pick me up to receive a book in the mail every single month. These are mostly new books with some available even before their public release, which makes the selection even more of a fun surprise.
My verdict (for now):
I really do love this subscription, and if I was using it as my primary way to read and discover new books, I think it would work out so much better. However, I’m active on bookstagram, booktok, goodreads, storygraph, and I am always getting information on new books coming out and adding yet another book to my TBR.
