Summer Alternatives to NaNoWriMo
Well, I'm not doing NaNoWriMo this summer, but...
I will definitely be writing fiction.
One of my favorite things of the past two summers has been the #1000wordsofsummer project hosted by Jami Attenberg. Every day for two weeks, a group of at least 15,000 writers challenges themselves and each other to write 1,000 words. I find the process joyful, exhilarating, difficult, and the perfect blend of wild madness that goes into a daily writing challenge with a four digit word count.
I’m working on a few new things this summer, fiction-wise:
a short story that I hope will end up published in an anthology
a prequel story for an upcoming book series that I’ll call LD. It has demons and magic and lots of feistiness, and I can’t wait to share more about this book series. The prequel will likely be a free offering, but we’ll see — again, the best place to get updates on my writing is my newsletter.
What do you think — will you write 1,000 words a day this summer? (It’s only for two weeks, you can do it!)
